A long long time ago (230 to 65 million years ago to be exact), a dinosaur was born of noble lineage. His name was - well it was in a language of dinosaurs - so we will call him William. His mother was a princess, known for being the great-granddaughter of the last royal red dragons. His father was a fearsome warrior who was the protector of royal court. William was born small for his noble parentage, but was well-loved and certain to become the new ruler of his family's kingdom. His life was quite standard for young dinosaurs with his roaring, hunting, and protection lessons.
Then one day, the great dino-priest received a sign of great and terrible things to come. William's parents, being quite traditional, feared the prophecy despite their peer's scorn. In preparation, they began to store food and water in a cave they believed would be a safe place to ride out any possible tragedy. Yet as time went on, it seemed nothing was coming.
Eventually, on the day of the great dinosaur banquet the sky grew black. William's parents believed it was nothing and decided to still attend the banquet as they were guests of honor. William, however, was sent to the cave to spend the night. He had the reputation for showing up places that he was not supposed to be and his parents believed this would keep him out of trouble. His parent's had good reason, as it turned out William had plans to ensure he was able to explore the dessert buffet he knew would be at the banquet. But as William began to sneak from the cave, a great explosion shook the Earth as if an tidal wave in the earth was coming from somewhere far away. The shaking grew and rocks above the cave shifted, tumbling down to seal William in the cave below.
William was scared, but sure his family would come retrieve him as soon as possible, decided to take a nap. He slept and slept and slept. Little did William know, the Earth had been hit by an asteroid causing a mixture of ash and earth to be suspended in the air and block the sun. As the sun was blocked, it became colder and colder, causing William to go into hibernation. When he finally woke, he was ravenous and ate all the food that had been stored in the cave. He then, not having heard anyone else digging, started to shift rocks in order to leave the cave.
As William emerged from the cave, he began wheezing from the everything stirred into the air by the rocks shifting. As he explored his former home, he realized the world had changed quite a bit. He found a few other dinosaurs his age who had similar stories to his. He noticed there were some odd new pale animals. Some of the other dinosaurs had heard of a safe place to go, where there was a new society. William, hoping to find his family, traveled with these other dinosaurs until they found themselves at a place called the Chicago Field Museum. It was there he learned the truth of the asteroid and that it had been much much much longer than he thought since the great dinosaur banquet.
Now realizing he was orphaned, William decided to make the museum his home with the support network of his new friends...
